Detroit, Oct. 3, 2006
– 3D QuickTools Ltd. today announced, at the
Eastern Michigan SolidWorks User Group Meeting, the release of
3DQuickForm Version 2 to the international stamping market. With
more Tooling Designers using SolidWorks products than ever, there
has been a demand in the metal stamping industry to invest in
sophisticated blank development software to simulate the complex
metal forming process for die making. 3DQuickForm V2 enables
Tooling Designers to use the powerful CAD/CAE integrated environment
to develop the process of complex formed parts. 3DQuickForm V2 is
powered by ESI technology for its very fast and industry-proven
solver features to develop partial and complete blank developments
all within the industry-standard SolidWorks interface.
The traditional high-end metal forming software applications are
powerful but required dedicated full-time analysts. Combine this
with budget and extremely short dead lines; the high-end solutions
are not practical for the majority of metal stampers and tool
designers. 3DQuickForm has incorporated the high-end technology of
ESI into the SolidWorks interface to address this market segment.
This combination is both simple and powerful giving the user “Speed
of Use”.
3DQuickForm V2 has many new innovations and a very aggressive ROI.
Automatic mesh development with error correction to eliminate the
tedious time consuming mesh editing that is normally needed by
high-priced systems. This mesher will also prepare solver-favoured
quality to get faster and accurate results. An interactive and
color controlled Offset mesh function helps to create meshes like
mid-planes, which are a major challenge for complex automotive parts
with traditional CAD surfacing tools. The Preserved Edge function
allows users to interactively select interior and exterior edges to
maintain detailed geometries and tolerances without increasing
overall complexity of the mesh. Boundary constraints are allowed for
partial unfolding with datum surfaces to maintain analytic or
primitive geometry. This avoids crash forming of the entire part
just to work out a portion of the blank while having to manually
manipulate the results for a proper blank layout. Press-direction
can now be set by several options within SolidWorks for any
project. 3DQuickForm data is tightly integrated and associative to
native SolidWorks or imported solids and surfaces. The multiple
project capabilities are incorporated into the SolidWorks Property
Manager to enable the user to easily copy projects, automatically
rebuild face/surface selections and boundary constraints.
3DQuickForm Version 2 is available immediately to all existing
3DQuickForm users with current subscription service.

About ESI Group
ESI Group is a pioneer and world-leading provider of digital
simulation software for prototyping and manufacturing processes that
take into account the physics of materials. ESI Group has developed
an entire suite of coherent, industry oriented applications to
realistically simulate a product’s behavior during testing, to
fine-tune the manufacturing processes in accordance with the desired
product performance, and to evaluate the environment’s impact on
product usage. ESI Group’s products, which have a proven track
record in manufacturing and have been combined in multi-trade value
chains, represent a unique collaborative, virtual engineering
solution, known as the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), enabling
virtual prototypes to be improved in a continuous manner. By
drastically reducing costs and development lead times, VTOS
solutions offer major competitive advantages by progressively
eliminating the need for physical prototypes. ESI Group is listed on
the Nouveau Marché of Euronext Paris, and generated sales of €60m in
2004. The company employs almost 500 high-level specialists
worldwide, and covers more than 30 countries. For further
