QuickTools Ltd. today announced the professional version of
3DQuickForm to assist metal stampers to formulate their forming
strategies in the early die design phase. Building off the recently
announced 3DQuickForm V2 release, which is targeted for flat-blank
shape prediction, 3DQuickForm Professional raises the bar to support
unfolding complex part surfaces to non-planar initial blank
surfaces, flanging to surfaces and symmetry plane controls.
The ability to simply and quickly unfold 3D surfaces to other 3D
surfaces has been a key demand from stampers who need to handle very
complex metal parts in the automotive, appliance and electronic
industries. With the demand for higher energy savings and stylish
designs, metal parts have to follow non-planar linings in compact
designs. 3DQuickForm Professional allows the user to study the
multi-stage forming process, which is a significant challenge to
most unfolding software that only produces blank shapes on planar
surfaces. The 3D trim curve of an unfolded flange is now made
available for users to generate the added surface on which the
correct addendum can be modeled. Symmetry plane constraints allow
users to model half or quarter of a part while the rest is
automatically calculated which reduces geometry complexity, meshing,
and the solver calculation time. The symmetry plane constraint also
adds control for node motion along a cross-section of a part whether
or not the part is symmetric at the plane location.
The feedback from the existing 3DQuickForm users was extremely
positive during the pre-release phase. 3DQuickForm Professional is
now available to the market. Current users of 3DQuickForm may
contact resellers for demonstration and upgrade policy. 3DQuickForm
Professional is powered by ESI Group technology advanced solver
features.

About ESI
Group
ESI
Group is a world-leading supplier, and a pioneer of digital
simulation software for prototyping and manufacturing processes that
take into account the physics of materials. ESI Group has developed
an extensive suite of coherent, industry oriented applications to
realistically simulate a product’s behavior during testing, to
fine-tune manufacturing processes in accordance with desired product
performance, and evaluate the environment’s impact on product
performance. ESI Group’s products, which have a proven track record
in manufacturing and have been combined in multi-trade value chains,
represent a unique collaborative and open virtual engineering
solution known as the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), enabling virtual
prototypes to be improved in a continuous and collaborative manner.
This integrated protocol allows all the company’s solutions to work
with each other and with applications developed by independent
software vendors. By significantly reducing costs and development
lead times and enabling product/process synergies, VTOS solutions
offer major competitive advantage by progressively eliminating the
need for physical prototypes during product development. The company
generated sales of €62.2m in 2005, employs over 500 high-level
specialists worldwide covering more than 30 countries. ESI Group is
listed in Eurolist compartment C of Euronext Paris. For further
